Week 5: Lets get spacey

Hey Campers, we are so excited to have you learn about the solar system and planets with us! We thought what a cool art project you probably don’t have in your room, your very own solar system! This project is super cool and hands on. You will have to make your own puff paint and mix and match all colors to make your planets! Even better, the paint will be scented so your planets won’t just look amazing they will smell amazing too! Don’t forget to send us a pic-ture of your completed Solar System!

Puff paint Solar System Activity

Materials:
• Glue
• Bowl
• Shaving Cream
• Scented Food Coloring
• Glitter
• Small cups for all your different colors
• Styrofoam balls for your orbit : We have la-beled all bags for each planet
• Wooden Stakes
• Styrofoam block

Step 1.) You are going to make your space puff paint to paint all your planets.
Step 2.) In your large bowl, whisk together 1 cup glue and 1 to 2 cups of your shaving cream de-pending on how fluffy you want your paint. The more shaving cream, the fluffier the paint will be. Make sure your paint is nice and fluffy.
Step 3.) Find your small plastic cups. You will separate your puff paint equally in all your cups. You will now find your scented food coloring to add to your plastic cups to mix up the colors for your planets. We have planet fact cards that will help you decide which colors to mix.
Step 4.) Find your Styrofoam balls all labeled for the different planets. Now it is time to stick your planets on your wooden stakes. Attach one planet at a time per wooden stake. Once your planets are all staked, find your Styrofoam block and arrange them on your block in the order that they go. Please find your planet chart to help with this.
Step 5.) Start painting each planet. You can choose to follow the color pattern or let your creative juices flow! You may add glitter to any of your paint or planets as you choose.
Step 6.) Let your planets completely dry and then display as you wish!
Step 7.) Find your sticky stars and add them to your planet or any place that is okay within your own space in your room or house to enjoy!

Constellation Activity

Hey Campers, now that you have your solar sys-tem, we have to learn about all the stars that or-bit them! This activity is even better because you can eat your constellation afterwards! It is very cool to learn about all the star patterns and how they look! Get ready to use your hands to build your birthdate constellation and all the ma-jor ones you may have heard of already! You al-so will be able to teach your friends and family about which constellation falls within their unique birth month! Get creative and make up your once unique star constellation, make sure to send us a picture!

Materials:
• Marshmallows (stars)
• Pretzel sticks
• Index cards
• Constellation cards

Step 1.) Find the constellation cards and find which constellation falls in your birthday month. Also the constellation cards with the major pat-terns for you to replicate also.
Step 2.) Find your pretzel sticks and
marshmallows. You are going to replicate the constellation for your birth month.
Step 3.) You can either save or eat your constel-lation.
Step 4.) Make your family or friends constella-tions and share with them!
Step 5.) Find your glow in the dark stars. Find a fun place with permission of your adult that you will be able to attach the stars and enjoy feeling or seeing them. Best if you can put them in a room that is dark they will glow best in the dark!
